Dreamy Delights, Unveiling Tokyo's Quirky Sleep Café Experience

Snooze Innovations in the Heart of Harajuku

Have you ever thought about paying to sleep while standing? Well, a peculiar café in Tokyo, Japan has caught everyone's attention by introducing the concept of paying for a designated nap time within their cozy sleep capsules.

Nestled within Tokyo's vibrant Harajuku district, the Nescafe-operated "Sleep Café" has recently unveiled a vertical sleep capsule, allowing visitors to catch a refreshing nap during their daytime adventures.

These capsules are the brainchild of a Japanese venture named "Zirafunap." Inside, you'll find vertical seating with arm and knee pads, along with amenities such as ventilation, power outlets, and dimming lights. The capsules come in two designs: one featuring a cozy forest theme with wooden accents, and another with a futuristic space-like aesthetic, combining plastic and metal elements.

For a fee of 825 yen (approximately $7.50), visitors can enjoy a nap capsule experience, coffee included. While walk-ins are welcome, those with reservations take priority during overlapping time slots.

Despite the slightly awkward posture required within the capsule, users have been praising its comfort. The capsules effectively block out external noise and create a relaxing ambiance, making it easy to slip into a peaceful nap.

One netizen who tried the sleep capsule mentioned, "Sleeping while standing felt surprisingly natural, and a 20-30 minute nap turned out to be quite refreshing. It reminded me of my school days."

The café management explains that a short 15-20 minute nap can boost productivity for afternoon activities such as studying or work. Particularly interesting is the concept of combining a freshly consumed cup of coffee with a nap, as the caffeine begins to take effect just as you wake up, leaving you more alert than a typical nap.

Scheduled to operate until the 17th of next month, this unique sleep capsule experience is a response to the rising cases of sleep deprivation and subsequent psychological stress in Japan. Nestle's Nescafe set up the Nescafe Sleep Café in 2021 to address these concerns and offer a comprehensive sleep experience.

Aside from the limited-time sleep capsules, the café also offers a separate sleep room on the second floor. Here, visitors can rest on recliners or large sofas in a cozy atmosphere.

The fee for using the sleep room matches that of the sleep capsule, at 825 yen for 30 minutes. For 1650 yen, guests can enjoy an hour in the sleep room and receive a cup of decaffeinated coffee alongside their regular coffee.

Experience the future of napping in the heart of Tokyo at the Nescafe Sleep Café, where comfort meets innovation in the most delightful way!
